Selecting the Best Flooring Contractor to Refinish Hardwood Floors in Sag Harbor, NY

There’s no better way to add beauty, elegance, and immediate return to your home than classic hardwood flooring. While hardwood is durable, it does not resist scratches or dents. It’s good to know that hardwood floors don’t need to be replaced after a few years. Rather, hardwood floors should just be refinished and made to look brand new.

This is a great time to hire a professional to refinish and rejuvenate your hardwood flooring. Homeowners in Sag Harbor, NY seeking a local company to refinish hardwood floors can contact flooring experts like Cousins Hardwood Floors. Cousins Hardwood Floors provides refinishing services for hardwood floors. Refinishing hardwood floors is a multi-step process that will remove dents and scratches. The Cousins Hardwood Floors team will refinish your hardwood floors in Suffolk County and you will be pleased with the outstanding results.

Professional vs. Do-It-Yourself Hardwood Refinishing

When you are ready to refinish hardwood floors, you have two options. You can attempt the refinishing on your own or you can hire a professional to do it right the first time. While you may consider yourself handy, you most likely don’t have the powerful, high tech refinishing equipment that an expert like Cousins Hardwood Floors brings to every job.

Refinishing hardwood floors is no doubt a messy job that should be left to a professional. The first step is floor sanding to remove the old finish and sand out the dents, scratches and dirt. The mere thought of sanding wood brings to mind a big mess of wood dust and particles. The second step is polishing using a buffing machine, followed by a thorough vacuuming. A professional will know when the floor is considered smooth, even and perfectly clean. The third step is the coating or finishing stage. The wood can be stained and sealed, or just sealed with polyurethane.

When you hire a flooring contractor, these steps are part of their daily job so they handle it with ease and efficiency. A do-it-yourself project could be more of a guessing game and not yield even close to the results of a professional.

Refinishing Hardwood Floors Improves Appearance and Alleviates Safety Issues

No one wants to have guests see scratches, scuffs and dents in the hardwood floors. And adding area rugs and runners to cover up unsightly marks in the wood is not a long term solution. Refinishing your floors can make them appear new again. In addition, an extra-large dent in hardwood flooring can be a tripping hazard. Same is true for hardwood that may be splintering underfoot. Refinishing floors provides a smoother, more even surface.

What Type of Flooring Is Right For Your Flooring Project in Suffolk County?

Refinish Hardwood Floors in Albertson, NY

Finding the most beautiful floor is usually at the top of your flooring wants. However, you also need to identify what room or rooms inside your Sag Harbor, NY home will get new flooring. The next step is to determine if you will continue one type of flooring throughout or select different flooring types for different rooms. The bathroom and kitchen may require different flooring than a high traffic entryway, hallway or living room.

Other determining factors will be key to your decision to install solid hardwood, engineered hardwood or vinyl wood flooring. With so much resting on your choice to install the right flooring, Cousins Hardwood Floors will guide you every step of the way. The team knows the importance of selecting the right flooring before installation. Once a floor is installed, there is no time to change your mind. Cousins Hardwood Floors will carefully explain each flooring type – and the pros and cons to each.

Solid Hardwood Flooring is Impressively Beautiful, Durable and Valuable

Solid hardwood flooring is classic, elegant and timeless. And, as it should, hardwood flooring provides a great return on investment. Solid hardwood is a natural material, pure wood from top to bottom. Popular types include oak, maple, cherry, ash, walnut, hickory, bamboo and more. Hardwood floors add a warm yet elegant look to any room and match many decor styles, from modern to traditional.

Over time, hardwood flooring will bear the brunt of foot traffic, scratching from rearranging furniture and other daily wear and tear. That is why experts recommended that hardwood flooring be refinished approximately every 5 to 10 years. For high-traffic areas, hardwood flooring owners could cover some of the floor with area rugs and runners to cut down on damage and future maintenance.

Engineered Hardwood Offers Many Color Options and is Priced Less Than Solid Hardwood

If you were wondering what engineered hardwood is made of, we have good news. Engineered hardwood flooring is made with “real” wood. As solid hardwood is a single piece of wood, engineered hardwood is constructed of multiple layers. The top layer is solid hardwood that is then backed by multiple layers of wood material. Engineered hardwood is ideal for higher humidity areas of the home where a solid hardwood would typically warp. The multiple layered design makes for a stronger and more stable floor. And while engineered flooring does handle moisture better than solid hardwood, being made from wood it’s not actually waterproof.

Affordable Vinyl Wood Flooring Resembles Hardwood But Requires Less Maintenance

Vinyl Wood Flooring looks like solid hardwood but it’s a more affordable option. And while hardwood flooring requires refinishing, vinyl flooring requires minimal maintenance. Vinyl flooring is moisture, fade and scratch resistant. A simple sweeping or mopping of a vinyl floor makes it look new. Vinyl flooring is ideal for high traffic areas and is a great choice for homes with pets. It can be installed in sheets, planks or tiles.

Some information about Sag Harbor, NY

Sag Harbor is an incorporated village in Suffolk County, New York, United States, in the towns of Southampton and East Hampton on eastern Long Island. The village developed as a working port on Gardiner’s Bay. The population was 2,169 at the 2010 census.

Sag Harbor was settled by English colonists sometime between 1707 and 1730. Many likely migrated from New England by water, as did other settlers on eastern Long Island. The first bill of lading to use the name ‘Sag Harbor’ was recorded in 1730.

While some accounts say the village was named for the neighboring settlement of Sagaponack, which at the time was called Sagg, historians say Sagaponack and Sag Harbor both were named after a tuber cultivated by the local Pequot people and used as a staple crop. In their Algonquian language, they called the vegetable sagabon. It was one of the first crops colonists sent to England. The tuber-producing vine is now known as the Apios americana.

During the American Revolutionary War, New York Patriots fled from the advancing British and Loyalist forces and departed from Sag Harbor by boat and ship for Connecticut. In 1777 American raiders under Return Jonathan Meigs attacked a British garrison at a fort on a hill in Sag Harbor, killing six and capturing 90 British soldiers in what was called Meigs Raid. The fort was dismantled after the war. The site has become known as the Old Burying Ground and is associated with the Old Whaler’s Church.
