Make Careful Planning of Your Flooring Project in Suffolk County

If you are currently contemplating new flooring in Nesconset, NY, take the time to plan out your intended vision. There are more factors to consider than just determining what is the most beautiful floor. You also need to evaluate which rooms and type of rooms will have the flooring installed. Some homeowners decide to install one type of flooring throughout the entire space. Others decide to install varying flooring types based on room types.

Flooring that is right for a high traffic living room and hallway may not be right for a moisture prone room like a bathroom or kitchen. The level of moisture in a room plays a big factor if you are considering solid hardwood, engineered hardwood or vinyl wood. Rest assured, Cousins Hardwood Floors will explain the differences to be sure you select the right wood flooring for your home in Nesconset, NY.

Solid Hardwood Flooring Provides Immediate Return on Investment

Solid hardwood floors are classic, elegant and timeless. Part of its popularity is the fact that solid hardwood is simply and naturally, pure wood from top to bottom. Types of wood vary but most homeowners select oak, maple, cherry, ash, walnut, hickory and bamboo. Among the hardwoods are varying stain colors including honey tones, whitewashed, light and dark browns, reds, neutrals and more. Hardwood floors can add a warm, inviting and elegant look to modern, contemporary and traditional decor and furnishings.

There are a few drawbacks to solid hardwood floors. These floors can be dented, scratched and are not waterproof. Hardwood is not the ideal flooring for high moisture areas like bathrooms and kitchens. However, homeowners who fall in love with hardwood will simply add an area rug or runner to justify installing the hardwood flooring throughout an open floor plan that includes the kitchen area. Experts suggest that hardwood flooring be refinished every 5 to 10 years.

Engineered Hardwood is Beautiful, Durable and Easy to Install

Despite what many believe, engineered hardwood flooring is “real” wood. What is the difference between solid hardwood and engineered hardwood flooring? Well, solid hardwood is a single piece of wood. Engineered hardwood flooring is a multiple layer construction. The top layer is hardwood that is backed by multiple layers of wood material.

Why is multiple layers good in flooring? The multiple layers allow movement that is ideal for areas with higher humidity levels that would warp solid hardwood. In addition, the layers strengthen the flooring. One thing for homeowners to keep in mind is that while engineered flooring handles moisture better than solid hardwood, it is still made from wood. That means it’s not considered waterproof. Engineered hardwood is available in a variety of colors. It’s also priced less than solid hardwood.

Affordable Vinyl Wood Flooring Resembles the Craftsmanship of Wood

While it resembles hardwood, vinyl wood flooring can actually be a much more affordable option to solid hardwood. In addition, as hardwood flooring requires refinishing, vinyl flooring does not. Vinyl requires minimal maintenance in addition to being moisture and fade resistant. Vinyl flooring is durable – not easily scratched as hardwood flooring. Vinyl flooring is great for high traffic areas and homes with pets. Simply sweep and mop to keep it looking great. Vinyl wood flooring is conveniently available in sheets, planks or tiles.

If you are lucky enough to already have hardwood flooring in your home, you know how beautiful it looked when it was brand new. You also know that as the years have flown by so did the increasing number of noticeable scratches and dents in the hardwood. And no matter how many area rugs and runners you’ve added to the floor, the only way to truly cover the scratches is to refinish the hardwood flooring. Nesconset is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Smithtown, located in Suffolk County, Long Island, New York, United States. The population was 13,387 at the 2010 census.

Prior to contemporary settlement, a sparse population of farmers were lived near Lake Ronkonkoma. A primitive road network existed as Gibbs Pond Road, Browns Road, Old Nichols Road, Townline Road and the predecessor of Smithtown Boulevard. In 1904, brothers and French immigrants Louis and Clemen Vion came to the Pine Barrens of southeastern Smithtown from Manhattan on numerous occasions as sportsmen. By 1910, the brothers fell a line of trees off of Gibbs Pond Road immediately south of modern-day NY-347 to create Midwood Avenue. They built their home on this street where it still present.

As the population grew, a lumber yard, general store, and post office were constructed in 1908. The historic Nesconset Schoolhouse was built in 1910 and the Nesconset Fire Department was built by 1935, A commercial center emerged where Lake Avenue South and Gibbs Pond Road meet. The brothers decided to name the newly established settlement after Smithtown’s local historical figure, Nasseconsett, who deeded the Nissequogue people’s land to Richard Smith. Later development was concentrated on Lake Avenue South, Southern Boulevard and the Lake Ronkonkoma area along Gibbs Pond Road in the form of summer residences.

By 1930, Nesconset had a population of 50 people along Lake Avenue and spread along Smithtown Boulevard and Gibbs Pond Road. The construction of NY-347 in the 1950s opened the southeast corner of Smithtown to rapid residential development to Storybook Homes by bisecting the small center of the hamlet. This forced the shift of the commercial center of Nesconset to Smithtown Boulevard between Old Nichols Road and Southern Boulevard. This area was known formerly as East Hauppauge.
